Code List of GM Engine

Americans prefer cars with a big engine that is ‘thirsty’ in fuel. And General Motors or GM is one of the vehicle manufacturers which love to produce vehicles with big machines or engines. There are at least 10 biggest engines which have been produced by this American vehicle manufacturer. From the Cadillac V-16 engine in the war era until Chevy 572 engine that is also known as a crate engine because the delivery was always use a crate or wooden box. For you who want to know more about GM engine code list, here it is.

General Motors Engine Code List

2010 Chevy Malibu engine code B, 2.4l Mistake on the engine code M, this M code comes out on the 1995 – 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and the engine is an RPO L82 3.1 SFI engine. This engine made its first appearance on the A-Body sisters Buick Century and Oldsmobile’s Cutlass Ciera “S”, the 1994 L-Body Chevrolet Beretta/Corsica, and its N-Body siblings, which include the Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Achieva, and Pontiac Grand Am, but Oldsmobile also had offerings of this engine offering in the late 1993 W-Body Cutlass for the engine to also incorporate into the 1994 model year W-Bodies, which included the Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix, with the aforementioned Monte Carlo and its sedan equivalent, the revised Lumina to follow suit the next model year, 1995. It continued its second iteration, the LG8 3.1 in 2000 (VIN code “J”), which finally ceased production in the 2005 model year W-Body version of the Century.

VIN code T also designates a 3.1 V6, the base engine in the 1990-92 Camaro/Firebird platform, and VIN code 8 is much better known as the L98 5.7 V8 TPI, standard in the 1985-91 Corvette and optional in the 1987-92 Camaro/Firebird platform.

List of the Biggest Engines that General Motors Produced

  • Cadillac 472

This engine is deliberately produced by GM to have more minimal maintenance. The engine has a component of 10 percent less than the previous model, and the number of joint gaskets has been reduced to 30 percent.

  • 496 Engine

This engine is also called L18 engine. It is specifically manufactured for GM trucks. This engine is entirely made from iron blocks which have the same bore diameter as the 7.4 big block engine. But the stroke was raised to 0.37.

  • Cadillac 500

The next GM biggest engine is Cadillac 500. This engine was created by GM specifically for El Dorado cars until 1975. Cadillac then uses this engine on all of its models.

  • 502 Engine

This engine is another example of a Chevrolet performance engine. The model of the vehicle that uses this engine is Ram Jet.

  • Chevy 572

Introduced in 1998, the engine has 2 variants. One that can accept 92 octane gasoline, and another type is specifically for off-road cars. The power of this engine starts from 620 Horse Power to 720 Horse Power.
